Hooksett Tornados Soccer Press Release

A tear fell down Kristine Stevens’ face yesterday as she learned a local soccer team raised more than $12,000 to help her family buy a handicap van.
Kristine’s son Trevor, 8, has Spina Bifida, a birth defect affecting mobility and nerves from the waist down. Trevor’s in a wheelchair and the family has been trying to raise approximately $35,000 to buy a used van.
Coach John Lyscars said his team, Hooksett Tornadoes Boys U14, jumped at the chance to help Merchants Automotive Group President Stephen Singer with this fundraiser for Trevor, who lives in Manchester.
“He’s a kid who doesn’t get to be part of a team, so to see him get to be part of this is lovely,” said Kristine Stevens yesterday, her voice breaking as her son joked and laughed with the Hooksett team.

Besides the money, yesterday was also full of presents, wrapped in paper showing one of Trevor’s favorite characters, Spiderman.
“Wow, I can’t believe it,” Trevor said, his jaw dropping as he unwrapped a soccer ball autographed with the names of the Tornados’ players. He then opened a box containing a Tornados’ player’s jersey, also autographed.
But Trevor had no words when it came time for the final gift- an offer to be an honorary team captain at the Tornados’ next home game. All he could do was nod.
Kristine Stevens and Trevor’s grandmother, Florence Bell, stood nearby, unable to control their tears.
Trevor wiped the tears from his mother’s face.
“It’s OK, they’re happy tears,” Kristine told her son.
The Stevens family still needs more money to achieve their goal. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at Citizens Bank with checks payable to the Trevor Stevens Handicap Van Fund.
